About the role
We are a small, fun team who work collaboratively across all accounting functions. We are seeking a proactive and forward-thinking accounting professional to join us on a fixed-term 12–14 month contract. Reporting to the Coordinator Accounting, you’ll play an important role in delivering accurate, compliant and timely accounting services across Council. This will include supporting internal and external financial and management reporting, preparing actual-to-budget variance analysis, assisting with budgets and financial statements, completing general ledger reconciliations, supporting audit and FBT requirements, and providing accounting advice and support to managers and staff.
About you
You’ll bring at least three years’ experience in accounting, with strong knowledge of financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, GST, general ledger control, month-end and year-end processes and statutory reporting. You’ll have a sound understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and GST legislation, together with practical experience in banking, treasury and cash management, including cash flow forecasting, bank reconciliations, investments and transaction authorisation. A degree in Accounting, Business or a related discipline is desirable, with equivalent qualifications and substantial relevant experience also considered. Experience with TechnologyOne or a similar integrated finance system, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills, will be highly regarded.
You’re an analytical and solutions-focused professional who enjoys working with financial information, identifying trends and finding practical ways to improve processes and systems. You’ll be confident building strong relationships with managers, staff and external providers, providing clear accounting advice and supporting people through system and process changes. Well organised and adaptable, you’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines, while using your analytical skills to provide meaningful insights that support informed decision-making.

We support flexible working arrangements. This role is initially office-based for onboarding, with hybrid work available in the future once established in the role, subject to manager approval and operational needs.
