About the role

Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, the Manager Governance and Performance is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight of Council’s governance and performance functions. Leading a high-performing team, you will drive the development and delivery of effective governance frameworks, organisational performance systems, compliance programs, information management practices and assurance activities that support Council to achieve its strategic objectives. Working closely with Councillors, the Executive Leadership Team and external stakeholders, you will play a critical role in strengthening organisational accountability, supporting informed decision-making and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. As an enabling service, the Governance and Performance team is central to supporting Council in delivering the goals and outcomes outlined in the Council Plan and associated strategies, policies and plans. This is an exciting opportunity to influence organisational performance and contribute to the success of a values-driven regional council. 

About you

You are an experienced and strategic leader with a strong background in governance, organisational performance, compliance, risk management or a related discipline. You bring a deep understanding of contemporary governance practices and the ability to translate complex legislative and regulatory requirements into practical organisational outcomes. Highly collaborative and influential, you are skilled at building strong relationships with senior leaders, elected representatives and external stakeholders while providing trusted advice and guidance. Your ability to think strategically, lead change and drive continuous improvement is matched by strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills. You are motivated by public purpose, organisational excellence and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the community through strong governance, accountability and performance.

Macedon Ranges Shire is located in central Victoria, about an hour's drive north-west of Melbourne. Covering an area of around 1700 square kilometres, the shire is a semi-rural municipality known for its beautiful natural landscapes. The shire has an estimated population of around 51,500 people and resides on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung peoples.
